MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The Common Core Standards reflect a need for the 4C’s: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Our teachers have been working to bring these 4C’s into their lessons. We are pleased that the result has been more engagement by the students and an excitement about learning.
This is our first year in implementing Thinking Maps and Project Based Learning. These interactive thinking tools will help our students organize their thinking, think critically across content areas, and foster more engagement to broaden their learning experiences.
The teachers have also been trained to use CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) strategies for math which helps students understand math concepts by using hands on materials and exploring different ways to solve problems.
The Smarter Balance State Test and the Common Core Standards require more technology. To meet this challenge, Geddes has added 60 notebooks for our 4th & 5th grade classrooms which has allowed for more computer time for all grades in the computer lab. The addition of notebooks will provide our 4th & 5th graders the opportunity to engage in more group work and collaborative experiences. We will continue to expand our technology needs in this school year.
